The Kelvedon Youth Forum has enjoyed a very promising start and has already had significant influence on local issues. Join the Kelvedon Youth Forum. Floodlit hard play areaThe hard play area on the playing field has been renovated. This included work to re-fence, resurface and rewire the lighting, making it a usable facility once more. Although the parish council had already agreed the work in principle, the Youth Forum made it clear that they saw it as a priority. They also offered advice before the surface was marked out to introduce basketball as well as tennis, five a side football and netball. More about the hard play area.
Youth NoticeboardAn idea from the Youth Forum has resulted in a smart new noticeboard being erected on the playing field to display youth matters. Forum members administer it, with advice from the parish council.
Kelvedon play equipment projectFollowing work on this project over the course of one year, Forum members have taken a very active and a leading role overseeing the choice of new play equipment, most of which has already been installed on the playing field. Not only did they undertake research and debate choices, but they also participated in site meetings with representatives from competing potential suppliers and they actively sought and obtained various grants that contributed to the purchase and installation of the equipment, raising in total, to date, just over £21,000. This has been a tangible and significant achievement. More about the play equipment project. FundraisingDemonstrating their awareness of the limited availability of public funding, Forum members have explored avenues through which they might raise additional funds themselves by organising social events, and have held three discos so far. 12 May 2008: Kelvedon Youth Forum is writing to all tenants of Greenfields Housing Association in Kelvedon looking for support for their application for a share of the £100,000 which the Housing Association is making available for projects in the Witham Area. The Forum has already submitted its outline bid for outdoor keep fit equipment for adults plus play equipment for younger children at the Glebe Road/Thorne Road play area, and has been short-listed for further consideration. | |||||||
